Biggest bombshell! Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd reveals nightmare with Hanni Treweek’s family that caused huge wedding delay

When Coronation Street legend Jack P. Shepherd finally married his long-time love Hanni Treweek, fans imagined a flawless fairy-tale affair. The couple’s July wedding

at the breathtaking Manchester Cathedral was, on the surface, the very picture of glamour: a star-studded guest list, the grandeur of the venue, and a reception filled with laughter,

music, and champagne. But according to Jack himself, behind the shimmering facade was a string of near disasters—chaotic moments, last-minute scrambles,

and one particularly shocking mishap involving Hanni’s family that nearly derailed the ceremony altogether.

Speaking candidly on his hit podcast On The Sofa, which he co-hosts with former Corrie favorite Colson Smith and current co-star Ben Price, Jack revealed that their wedding day was riddled with “cock-ups,” each more dramatic than the last. And while the couple eventually said “I do” in front of friends, family, and fellow soap royalty, the road to the altar was anything but smooth.

The Day the Family Went Missing

The biggest drama came courtesy of Hanni’s Irish relatives, who—unbelievably—showed up to the wrong church.

Jack explained: “It was all Hanni’s Irish family. They all went to the wrong church. They went to the Catholic church at the back of Deansgate, they just assumed it was there.”

The mix-up was disastrous timing. Manchester Cathedral and the Catholic church in question are about a 12-minute walk apart, but when the family arrived at the wrong building, they were stunned to find it completely empty.

Realizing their mistake, they frantically checked their invites and text messages, confirming the true venue just as panic began to set in. By the time they made it to the Cathedral, they were 15 minutes late—an eternity when the bride herself was scheduled to arrive.

Colson Smith, who was serving as a groomsman, remembered the moment vividly: “We were all sat, literally waiting for Hanni, the doors opened, and in rush her family. Ben [Price] had to stand up to try and get them seated quickly. It was chaos.”

For Jack, watching the drama unfold was both nerve-wracking and surreal. The gap in the pews where Hanni’s family should have been seated was glaring, casting a shadow over the otherwise elegant proceedings. “It threw me for a minute,” Jack admitted, “but luckily they got settled in just before Hanni walked in.”

The Groomsmen’s Fashion Fiasco

As if one catastrophe wasn’t enough, the groomsmen had their own set of problems that morning—problems that Jack later described as some of the biggest “f***-ups” of the entire day.

Colson, in particular, faced a comedy of errors. The trio of Jack, Colson, and Ben had not done a final suit check before the big day, a mistake that came back to haunt them. Just hours before the ceremony, Colson discovered that his shirt didn’t fit around his neck or chest.

“I realized way too late,” Colson confessed. “I had to sprint to the shops, but Manchester Day was happening and loads of roads were closed. I was running around the city trying to find a shirt, panicking.”

The drama didn’t end there. When he finally made it back, he slipped into his new shirt—only for Jack to immediately point out another glaring issue: Colson’s socks.

“I walked into the room with my shirt on, no shoes, and Jack just went, ‘Ooh, they’re black socks!’” Colson laughed. Unfortunately, they weren’t. He had chosen a light blue pair.

Colson defended his choice: “I didn’t know we all had to wear black socks. I’d gone through my drawer that morning thinking, ‘Do I go green? Do I go blue?’ I wanted to make a statement. So I went with a nice light blue pair.”

While the sock debacle may have seemed minor compared to Hanni’s family being MIA, it became one of the day’s most talked-about mishaps among the groomsmen.

The Cathedral Chaos

For the guests already seated at Manchester Cathedral, the atmosphere was a rollercoaster. One moment, the anticipation of Hanni’s arrival filled the air. The next, whispers rippled through the congregation as people noticed the glaring absence of her family.

When the doors finally opened, many assumed it was the bride. Instead, it was her frantic relatives rushing in, red-faced and desperate to slip into place before the ceremony began.

For a few tense moments, there was confusion. The ushers scrambled, Ben Price rose to his feet to help, and Colson admitted to being “half in stitches, half panicking.”

“It was one of those moments that felt like slow motion,” Ben later reflected. “We’re all thinking, ‘Hanni’s about to walk in, and her family are still trying to find their seats.’ But somehow, it all just about worked out.”

A Star-Studded Affair

Despite the chaos, when the ceremony finally began in earnest, it was nothing short of magical. With Manchester Cathedral as the stunning backdrop, Jack and Hanni exchanged vows in front of a congregation filled with Corrie’s finest, both past and present.

Colson played his part as a loyal groomsman, while Ben delivered a heartfelt reading. The grandeur of the venue, combined with the emotion of the moment, left even the soap’s most seasoned stars misty-eyed.

After the initial hiccups, the couple’s union was celebrated with joy, laughter, and more than a few toasts to overcoming a morning of madness.

Jack’s Honest Reflection

Looking back on the day during On The Sofa, Jack was able to laugh about the disasters that unfolded, but he admitted that in the moment, the pressure was overwhelming.

“No matter how much you plan, something always goes wrong,” he said. “It’s like live television—you just have to roll with it.”

He credited Hanni with remaining calm, despite the chaos happening behind the scenes. “She didn’t know the half of it until after, thankfully. She was just focused on walking down the aisle and marrying me. And honestly, that’s all that mattered.”

The Legacy of a Perfectly Imperfect Wedding

What could have been remembered as a disaster has instead become a story of resilience, humor, and love. The day may have been marred by missing family members, wardrobe malfunctions, and last-minute scrambles, but ultimately, the hiccups only added to the charm of the occasion.

Fans of Jack, who has played David Platt on Coronation Street since 2000, were delighted to hear the behind-the-scenes stories. For many, the chaos made the wedding feel even more relatable. After all, how many couples can truly say their wedding day went off without a hitch?

As Jack and Hanni embark on married life together, one thing is clear: if they can survive a wedding day filled with mishaps, they can survive anything.
